Get answers to common questions about Closure Sew-In Maintenance.
We recommend scheduling maintenance every four to six weeks to remove buildup and resecure the foundation. We can refresh installs within eight weeks; if your sew-in exceeds eight weeks, we’ll schedule a consultation for full removal and re-install to protect your hair.
Typically we keep the closure intact. We shampoo, condition, dry, and tighten as needed. Full removal is only recommended for excessive tension, significant damage, or when an install exceeds eight weeks—then we’ll discuss safe removal and re-install options.
If an install is older than eight weeks we perform a careful evaluation. Often a refresh won’t be safe; we’ll recommend full removal and re-install to prevent matting, stress, or breakage and discuss timing and replacement options.
Appointments typically take 45 to 90 minutes depending on hair length, condition, and any adjustments needed. Simple cleans and drys are quicker; more repair or re-securing may extend the time. Your stylist will provide a precise estimate at check-in.
Yes. We use professional, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners formulated for extensions and natural hair. Products remove buildup without stripping moisture. We’ll also recommend an at-home regimen to keep your closure healthy between salon visits.
Light styling with heat protection is usually fine after maintenance, but chemical services or coloring should be scheduled separately. Coloring immediately after a refresh can stress bonds; book a consultation so we can assess the closure and advise proper timing.
